A leading insurance Brokerage firm seeks to hire a Natural Resources Solutions professional to join the company.
JOB PURPOSE
The Head, Natural Resources Portfolio is responsible for leading, growing, and managing the organization’s Natural Resources insurance portfolio, with a strong focus on oil & gas, energy, mining, agribusiness, and extractive industries. The role combines deep sector understanding, insurance technical expertise, and commercial leadership to deliver tailored risk solutions, strengthen client relationships, and drive sustainable revenue growth for the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Portfolio Strategy & Growth
- Develop and execute a clear growth strategy for the Natural Resources portfolio in line with the organization’s overall business objectives.
- Identify and pursue opportunities within oil & gas, mining, energy, agribusiness, and related sectors.
- Expand Total Available Market through client acquisition, retention, and cross-selling.
- Own revenue, profitability, and pipeline performance for the portfolio
2. Client Advisory & Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives and risk managers within client organizations.
- Lead client engagements involving complex and high-risk insurance programmes.
- Understand client operations and translate operational risks into effective insurance solutions.
- Maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders.
3. Insurance Technical Leadership
- Review policy wordings, endorsements, exclusions, and reinsurance structures.
- Lead negotiations with local and international insurers and reinsurers.
- Provide technical oversight on claims, renewals, and loss management.
- Support clients during incidents, losses, and claims negotiations.
- Stay informed on market trends, capacity shifts, pricing movements, and regulatory changes.
- Represent the organization in industry forums and specialist engagements where required.
4. Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor team members within the Natural Resources portfolio.
- Build technical capability and succession within the team.
- Set clear performance objectives and targets, provide regular feedback, and drive PMS accountability.
- Promote collaboration with Global, Corporate, Financial Institutions and Marketing Teams.
5.Governance, Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure all placements and activities comply with regulatory and internal governance standards.
- Provide regular portfolio report covering revenue, risks, pipeline and claims.
- Support audit, management, reviews, and board reporting as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably supported by strong sector experience in natural resources or heavy industrial risk environments.
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in insurance broking, underwriting, or risk advisory with strong exposure to natural resources or energy clients.
- Professional insurance qualification (e.g. ACII, ACIIG, CII) is highly desirable.
